Manufacturing Project Engineer

Start date: July 1, 2021

Description: 

The Manufacturing Project Engineer is a position reporting to the COO. Primary deliverables are initially focused on bringing the first Glavel manufacturing facility in Essex, VT to life. This individual will partner with the COO to define and execute the integrated work plan, equipping the factory and setting up operational procedures to enable production startup. Over time, the scope of work will broaden to have long term growing responsibilities in the planning and execution of facilities expansion at multiple sites across North America. As a lead technical role in a startup environment, the responsibilities will be broad and can be expected to evolve based on business needs and company evolution.

Responsibilities: 

  • Define and document manufacturing process & equipment specifications, including facilities, processing, handling and testing
  • Develop and document project plans and timelines to meet factory startup milestones
  • Drive project execution, adjusting plans as required to achieve goals, including critical milestones and budgets
  • Define integrated facilities design & layout for systems noted above
  • Comprehend state and municipal permitting requirements; lead permit applications and ensure approvals secured
  • Identify suppliers and lead sourcing decisions for manufacturing process
  • Order manufacturing equipment, systems, parts/tools/supplies & materials while managing suppliers through delivery and installation
  • Collaborate with and manage external resources from design through installation and commissioning of factory equipment & systems, including contractors and partners
  • Document approach; transfer and apply methods & learning to multiple repeat site startups
  • Define and document Operations processes, training and reference materials
  • Lead and execute all plans with emphasis on safety, productivity, product quality and cost

 Requirements:

  • BS in engineering (MechE, ChE, EE, or Industrial) or equivalent work
  • 5-7 years minimum professional experience in a manufacturing industr(ies)
  • Demonstrated experience in manufacturing process and/or equipment engineering roles
  • Demonstrated experience and successes in effectively managing contractor, partner and customer relationships
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Valued Skills:

  • Experience in multiple manufacturing products/industries

Manufacturing Plant Manager

Start date: August 1, 2021
 

Description:

The Saxon Hill Plant Manager is the site leader of Glavel’s first foam glass aggregate production facility, reporting to the COO. Initial activities will include the final phases of factory fit-up and commissioning, operator staffing, and work in partnership with the COO and Engineering to define, document and enable the core operational processes needed for production launch. Long-term, the position will focus on staff management and development, plus consistent and reliable production delivery and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all plant employees including hiring, training & development, performance management, compensation and all other employee-manager relations
  • Establish and maintain culture of integrity, respect, safety, inclusion and premium quality production
  • Manage seamlessly across (4) 12-hr shifts, 7-days/wk to ensure consistency and communication across shifts
  • Establish personal onsite schedule to ensure balanced face time with all direct reports
  • Create and adjust monthly, weekly and daily production plans based on orders from Sales – responsible to meet production and product delivery commitments
  • Create and manage monthly, weekly and daily plans for product and material shipments and pick ups
  • Manage employee scheduling and time control
  • Monitor and manage raw materials and finished goods inventory
  • Lead development, execution and improvement of all factory processes – safety system, manufacturing & maintenance procedures, training plans, quality control procedures and methods
  • Establish, measure, monitor and review operational KPIs
  • Maintain clear and accurate records and documentation of all processes noted above
  • Drive facilities & equipment preventative maintenance strategy, utilizing tools such as TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), autonomous care, and 6S
  • Lead daily manufacturing management system
  • Lead continuous improvement of quality, cost, delivery and safety results
  • Act as plant interface to COO, Sales, and equipment/materials suppliers
  • Support deployment of facility processes and insights to future Glavel sites
  • Engage with future site leaders in sharing/implementation of operations best-practices across Glavel facilities
  • Collaborate with Engineering to enable future facilities/equipment upgrades including the installation & commissioning of glass powder processing and foam glass production lines

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years minimum experience in direct supervisory role
  • 7-10 years minimum professional experience in manufacturing
  • Demonstrated people- and project- management skills
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal & written)
  • Demonstrated experience and successes in effectively managing contractor, partner and customer relationships
  • Track record of problem solving and operational continuous improvement
  • Strong documentation & presentation skills

Valued Skills:

  • AAS or BS degree
  • Experience in multiple manufacturing products/industries
  • Factory startup and/or new product startup experiences
