Manufacturing Project Engineer

Manufacturing Project Engineer

Start date: July 1, 2021


The Manufacturing Project Engineer is a position reporting to the COO. Primary deliverables are initially focused on bringing the first Glavel manufacturing facility in Essex, VT to life. This individual will partner with the COO to define and execute the integrated work plan, equipping the factory and setting up operational procedures to enable production startup. Over time, the scope of work will broaden to have long term growing responsibilities in the planning and execution of facilities expansion at multiple sites across North America. As a lead technical role in a startup environment, the responsibilities will be broad and can be expected to evolve based on business needs and company evolution.


  • Define and document manufacturing process & equipment specifications, including facilities, processing, handling and testing
  • Develop and document project plans and timelines to meet factory startup milestones
  • Drive project execution, adjusting plans as required to achieve goals, including critical milestones and budgets
  • Define integrated facilities design & layout for systems noted above
  • Comprehend state and municipal permitting requirements; lead permit applications and ensure approvals secured
  • Identify suppliers and lead sourcing decisions for manufacturing process
  • Order manufacturing equipment, systems, parts/tools/supplies & materials while managing suppliers through delivery and installation
  • Collaborate with and manage external resources from design through installation and commissioning of factory equipment & systems, including contractors and partners
  • Document approach; transfer and apply methods & learning to multiple repeat site startups
  • Define and document Operations processes, training and reference materials
  • Lead and execute all plans with emphasis on safety, productivity, product quality and cost


  • BS in engineering (MechE, ChE, EE, or Industrial) or equivalent work
  • 5-7 years minimum professional experience in a manufacturing industr(ies)
  • Demonstrated experience in manufacturing process and/or equipment engineering roles
  • Demonstrated experience and successes in effectively managing contractor, partner and customer relationships
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Valued Skills:

  • Experience in multiple manufacturing products/industries
  • Additional experience in (or closely partnered with) facilities engineering roles
  • Additional experience in (or closely partnered with) procurement roles
  • Experience municipal and state permitting processes
  • Factory startup and/or new product startup experiences
  • 2D CAD layout skills
