Material Transparency

Material transparency is a responsibility. We are reshaping how the built environment addresses insulation, structural fill, circularity, and decarbonization, while holding ourselves to high standards of disclosure. That’s why we have both a Declare Label and a third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration to verify what goes into our material and how it sets the bar for low embodied carbon materials.

Declare: Ingredients Disclosed.

The Declare Label is a nutrition label for building products.

Our Declare Label confirms that Glavel is Red List Free, meaning it contains none of the harmful chemicals or substances flagged by the Living Building Challenge as polluting to the environment or toxic to humans. This designation makes Glavel ideal for use in Living Building Challenge, LEED v4/v5, WELL Building Standard, and other certification programs that prioritize material health and transparency.

By participating in the Declare program, administered by the International Living Future Institute (ILFI), we align ourselves with a growing movement to eliminate harmful chemicals from the built environment. It’s not just about compliance, it’s about pushing the industry forward.

Designed for Circularity

Glavel’s foam glass gravel is made from post-consumer recycled glass, supporting circularity and sustainability principles. We source glass from local waste streams and produce  for long-term durability. Glavel can be recovered and reused at the end of a building’s life, extending its useful life across multiple project spans.

Environmental Product Declaration: Embodied Carbon Data

Glavel’s foam glass gravel is backed by a third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) in accordance with ISO 14025 and ISO 21930:2017. Developed under the Smart EPD Program, our EPD offers full transparency into the environmental impacts of our product from cradle to gate (A1-A3), including raw material sourcing, transportation, and manufacturing.

The total cradle-to-gate GWP is 19.3 kg CO₂e per , driven primarily by upstream material processing. The manufacturing process itself contributes only 12–15% of GWP thanks to electric kilns powered by Green Mountain Power. This EPD demonstrates Glavel’s commitment to full material transparency, and provides project teams with the data they need to model whole-building LCA impacts and meet LEED, Buy Clean, and other procurement standards.
